The Summer Collection

Last summer, I created a collection of paintings, inspired by the lush greens, vivid yellows and serene blues, aimed to capture the essence of summertime beauty. In this blog post, I will take you through my process, the inspiration behind the collection and the unique technique I employed to use watercolors on canvas.

Berlin Lakes and Forests (See und Wald):

The scent of fresh wildflowers filled the air as I walked down the walking path in Grunewald, and the tress adorned with multitude of greens. It was impossible for me to not draw inspiration from this. This itself became the backbone of my collection, infusing each painting with life.

Similarly, the abundance of lakes in Berlin, played a significant role in influencing the collection as well. I was captivated by the way light reflected off the surface of warm water, creating surreal reflections. Hence, you will see that almost every painting in this collection has a stream of water that creates a symphony of colors and reflections.

Watercolor on Canvas

To experiment with new techniques, I decided to use watercolors on canvas. This was not easy to do, as canvas doesn’t absorb water like the way paper does. So taking inspiration from a fellow artist, I applied many layers of watercolor ground mixture, which when dry, behaved very similar to watercolor paper. I was now able to work in layers, with extended moisture on the canvas, creating a smooth textured watercolor painting.

Why I never released it?

With all the inspiration, I was determined to recreate the magic and energy that nature bestowed during those summer months. The mixture between the green, yellows and blues brought so much balance and calmness to my artworks. I was also hopeful that the collection would bring joy to every nature enthusiast, but unfortunately I never released them.

As the saying goes, life gets in the way. Just as I was nearing the completion of the collection, various personal events and commitment demanded my attention. These paintings are still sitting in my studio, waiting to be bought into light.

With this blog post, I hope to have given life to my forgotten collection. However this is not the end. I will very soon complete the remaining pieces of this collection, like missing pieces of a puzzle and launch the collection.

Don’t want to miss out the launch?

Stay tuned for the unfinished pieces to be finished and subscribe to emails to know when the final collection will be revealed.
